Back in the Ring
Gloves On, Expectations Low
Hey team,
Look at me making it 3 out of 3 newsletters! And yes, I’m as surprised as you are 😂
It’s been quite a social week for me - I met a friend for pizza 🍕, another for pasta 🍝, and ventured down to the outskirts of London to have brunch with my YouTube buddy, Jamie 🥞
Me and Becky Isjwara also recorded another episode of Small Creator Big World and hosted our second ever Creator Office Hours which was really fun.
But perhaps the most significant update of the week for me was that I started boxing again 🙌
Physically Fine. Mentally, Still Negotiating 😅
It’s been 10+ months since I did my last boxing session with my coach. Initially I was just taking a couple of months out because I was travelling, but I soon realised that a wrist injury I’d picked up before I left was a little sneakier than I thought.
At first I thought it was just because I was lugging suitcases around but then it started to hurt when I was doing basic things like washing the dishes or driving. Even after some rest, the pain was still there. And it kept me out for the next 8 months 😭
I did months of physio over the summer trying to rehab it back to full strength, and finally I got the all clear to go punch things again 🤗
So come last week and I was a little worried about going back because I thought I was going to bust up my wrist again.
And then I remember what my physio said - “your body is ready before the mind”.
Damn.
I was physically ok to go box, but the hesitancy came from my mindset 🤦♀️
I Like Punching Things 🥊
And so I went and I just took it easy in the first session - which was absolutely the right thing to do.
And my coach adjusted things too. She made sure my dodgy wrist was extra taped up and that we used little paddles for me to punch instead of the proper pads. And it turns out all was ok 🙏
Even better actually - it felt so. damn. good. to be back in the ring, punching things.
I still need to take it easy. I still need to keep up my physio strengthening exercises.
I am not 100% cured.
But I’m a lot further along that I would have been if I kept telling myself I wasn’t quite ready to go back.
So I guess the moral of the story is: it’s ok to do something before you’re 100% ready.
You don’t have to go all in. Take it slow. Adjust where necessary.
But (re)start.
Anyhoo, in other news, it appears my very old, very worn gloves are about ready to fall apart so I’ve asked Santa for some new ones 🎅 I’ll let you know next week if he comes through, ha.
Happy holidays all 🎄 See you in the next one 🫡
Bhav x

This sounds cathartic
Oh how I’d hate to be pinched punched first day of the month by you! I better watch out 😂
